Don't tell Ars that JoF or Sap aren't albums proper, he'll get mad

Album Rating: 3.5
If JoF and Sap were put together as a full-length album it'd be 3rd or 4th best.
Dirt (4.5)
Jar of Flies EP (4.5)
MTV Unplugged (4.2)
Facelift (4)
Black Gives Way to Blue (4)
Dinosaurs Here (3.5)
S/t (3.5)
Sap EP (3.5)
Rainier Fog (3 at most)

jar could maybe be classed as one bc i think the standard is anything above 25 min is technically an album unless stated otherwise (they marketed this as an ep tho so its very strongly culturally an ep lol) but sap is for sure too short

ya I count it as a full record.
And I’m really only saying that because the fuckin thing only has 7 songs but 4 of them are probably in my top 10 favorite Alice tracks ever. Ridiculously good record.

Sap is a pretty similar style as Jars, and released near each other, so counting both together as one full-length album is reasonable. Pretty sure they actually released them in that format at some point.

Sure did, I have the double LP. Sap is one sided with the AIC logo on side b

yea i used to have them lumped in my digital library when i was younger for organizational purposes. now i feel pretty differently as they came out like two years apart and have different sessions in which the material was written and have pretty different sounding prod so i count them separately these days
that and i think jar is a waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better release than sap is lol but sap is still pretty solid

Yeah, Slow Riot and Jar of Flies are the two best EPs by any artist or band imo

Sap kinda gets made redundant by the unplugged record. Brother and Got Me Wrong are so much better than the album versions and it’s not even close.

^ Agreed - and the other two songs on Sap don't do much for me

Jar of Flies is their best release by far imo

hot take, their uplugged album kinda weak at spots

It’s true. They’re people, so it’s understandable the myriad of factors that could fuck shit up

If JoF and Sap count then yeah the former is about as great as Dirt.

I prefer JoF to Dirt. Think they thrive more in the swampy voodoo acoustic-electric sound than they do in the angsty screamy stuff, even though that's what made them and I still love that shit too. Their self titled has also grown on me over the years, it's got a pretty unique and weird atmosphere
