Rainier Fog is easily their worst, sounds samey especially after this one, which was already a bit predictable for them. BGWtB is easily their best after the first two imo

^ Agreed with all of that
Edit: Well, except for the "first two" part, because I actually prefer the s/t to Facelift

agreed with none of it!

Idk never got the love for facelift, sounds by far the most like a bunch of glam metal songs transposed to minor key for added angst. Total "finding our sound" album
|

yeah im not a fan of facelift. really weak stuff compared to the run from dirt through self titled

first four tracks are goated but yeah it for sure drops off on a few songs

You call yourselves Alice In Chains fans and talking like that… smh
Yeah the first 4 songs on Facelift are best but there are other really good ones too like Sunshine, Love, Hate, Love, I Can’t Remember, and I Know Something (Bout You). The s/t is more inconsistent imo.

every song on the self titled whips and its a borderline 5 so massively disagree lmao. nothing on facelift i dig as much as the worst on that album s/t is like barely a hair away from dirt for me

I'd actually argue that Facelift is more inconsistent, due to the songs that don't quite fit their established style. Put You Down and I Know Something are so out-of-place in their discog, because of the leftover glam/funk influence from the band's roots
With that said, the highs of Facelift are still incredible. Love Hate Love, We Die Young, Confusion, and Bleed the Freak are some top-tier AiC for me

I think everything on Facelift fits and it's nice to have some variety there, they do it well. The s/t is kind of a slog to listen in full and sounds less inspired for sure, first time they got bland at times. Only a few songs on there I'd say are among their best.

to each their own and all that but its a really generic faceless hard rock album to me that has none of the personality that makes them one of my favorite bands, and that personality is basically overflowing on self titled so it is a no brainer for me lol

Maybe it's just a biproduct of my own depression, but I love how the s/t wallows in all of its muck and sludge. The "slog"-gy nature of it is precisely the appeal for me
And while we're talking about their discog, I guess I'll put out my most recent ranking:
Dirt (5)
S/t (4.5)
Black Gives Way to Blue (4.4)
Jar of Flies (4.3)
Facelift (4.1)
The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here (3.8)
Sap (3.7)
Rainier Fog (3.5)

The craziest opinion of all tho is thinking any of their other albums are better than Dirt
