it's awesome. The metal loving nerdish fans on their live youtube performances are awesome too. shouting out things like "PROTECT KERRY MCCOY AT ALL COSTS" lol

Listening to Dream House/Irresistible is like ... downing a whole gallon of apple cider...makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside

Listening to Dream House / Irresistible doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Dream House makes me feel absolute rage and despair while Irresistible finds me pondering these previous feelings while calming down. The only part of this album that makes me feel happy is the almost victorious guitar riff at the end of The Pecan Tree, and even then it is only a slight happiness due to the heavy subject matter of the lyrics.

dream house sounds more determined and optimistic than anything imo, regardless of lyrical content. the end of pecan tree is so good live.

I definitely see where you are coming from. For me this album evokes an extreme emotional response (hence the 5) of despair and sadness. I can see how you can see optimism in it thought. And I'd have to agree with you on The Pecan Tree live. I screamed those lyrics so loud. If I hadn't seen Godspeed in September, then that would have been the best show I'd seen this year.

this band is much better live than on record. i tend to get lost in their recordings after i've heard them a few times, which is kind of nice, but i feel like their albums don't stay grounded enough to really cement the experience of the songwriting. i still like their albums, but in person the songs are way more moving. this is true of almost all bands, but for these guys in particular there is a lot of power lost in translation on record i think.

I'd have to agree with sniper again even though I saw them in a small bar where the sound wasn't great.

i've seen them somewhere upwards of 5 times, and they were pretty phenomenal almost every time. i've definitely talked about this before, but at the risk of repeating myself, the first time i saw them was back in 2010 and i was completely floored by how intense george was. it was actually kind of unnerving how hard he was screaming, hard to watch in the best possible way. he's not nearly as unsettling as he used to be, but still really engaging.

George has a presence unlike any other vocalist I've ever seen. It's slightly disturbing and inspiring at the same time.

not feeling this, since it reminds me a bit like Explosions in the Sky with scathing vox and I hate those dudes

2.5 eh
