I mean I kinda hope it leak even though I preordered the CD and would rather be superstitious and only listen to the real CD rip, but still. Should get a new song in a week or two either way.

Maybe I'll wait and buy the Japanese version that will almost definitely have "From the Kettle Unto the Coil" as a bonus track.

not gonna happen

Well the Japanese version of Roads to Judah includes their demo and Sunbather has their "Punk Rock/Cody" cover so I think it's very likely. The Japanese need some incentive to buy their ridiculously expensive CDs.

why are CDs expensive in Japan? Also why do the Japanese get all the exclusive bonus track junk? Is it because Sony owns everything?

Supposedly there are more middlemen involved in the distribution of Japanese CDs, which can drive up the price. And because it's cheaper for Japanese consumers to import a US/EU version of an album, bonus tracks are added to the Japanese versions as incentive to buy their local, more expensive ones.
|
| |
It's speculation but it makes sense. Usually the bonus track will just be a b-side or some live tracks but it's occasionally worth the purchase. I bought the Japanese version of Converge's You Fail Me which has an extra track, "Wolves at My Door", in the middle of the album and it actually makes the flow better.
Japanese albums also come with an "info book" that provides the lyrics translated into Japanese as well as commentary from a "genre expert" so you're paying for that as well. You end up getting more for your money in the end.
That concludes today's Japan 101 lesson, tune in next time for the origins of tentacle hentai.

I just looked that all up. Apparently Japanese CDs (and other media) are weirdly expensive there. Didn't find out if it was government mandating the prices or what other factors influenced it, but it's still weird. Also weird that Japan is apparently a huge music market--for some reason they still insist on buying physical copies over digital downloads. Cultural differences, man, they is weird.

As one who prefers physical media when it comes to music, I can appreciate the way they do things over there. They definitely put more care into their packaging based on a few things I've bought.
