Yeah, it was a really good-to-great album leading up to that, but the last two songs elevate it significantly. Awesome album finishers.

this album is like their In Rainbows, both exceptionally produced, having poignant and hearty emotional centers, and remind me of my days as a wee lad

I'm afraid I'm on that minority that doesn't get this album. Opener and the last two tracks are great though, that I can agree.

I used to find it meh then played it on repeat until the lyrics and melodies grafted themselves onto my bones and now I can’t get rid of it.

The guitar tone on Fairweather Friends is legitimately one of the most satisfying tones I’ve ever heard, fuck it the guitar in general on that song is all-time great on every level. One of many aspects from this album that I still admire every time I spin it

This album is a masterpiece imo

I generally like QOTSA a decent bit and I do think SFTD is a great album, but this one is a whole different level for me

I Appear Missing is one of the best rock songs ever and definitely one of the 3 best songs Homme has made in his career, it's just super special, can't get enough of it

Yeah. As competently executed as the rest of this, over time this album just became IAP + "some other stuff" - then again, I'll gladly play the thing in full (as the runtime is lean enough).

I imagine it would be to the determent of its replay-ability if IAP was placed earlier in the track-listing (funny how that works). The closer is great too and offers succinct conclusive contrast after such exhilarating brilliance, no other song here could really follow it imo

One of the those albums where each song is bursting with personality. Each one is a like a snapshot

For sure, such a vibrant, diverse album and very important to me at the time. Less than 5 albums have some out since this that I would say are better.
