Normally I'd agree but I reckon it really works with the spacey ambient sound they tried out here, especially with Ashe's vocals having all that layering. *Might've* sounded better with more organic production but I really don't mind it here.
One band sterile production *really* bothers me about is animals as leaders, mostly because they're instrumental

This album clearly isn't meant to work live vocal vise lol. All the vocal layering and that very high tessitura. No one can do the songs justice.

Yeah, much like the drums, Ashe was actually meant to clone himself to deliver the ultimate live experience, but they just ran out of time. Damn shame

Maybe if they had more time the songwriting would be better too

They got more song oriented on Polaris and it's boring af. Tesseract is good at rhythmic fuckery and ambience, not songwriting imo

big disagree across the board, but they's divisive so w/e.

Hard disagree. This band sometimes gets lost in the ambiance, but their past two releases fixed that.

"didnt the avg of this used to be 3.5 or am I tripping?"
Either Polaris or Sonder had a 3.5 for a long time. This has been a 3.7 for as long as I recall.

Tundra is right though

This is getting better with age indeed. This lacks the heaviness of other annoying djent records and doubles down on solid vocal Melodie’s and ambiance. It gives the record tons more depth.

I mean, that's definitely true. It's the lack of songwriting and the annoying drum sound that ruins the album for me

Some of the riffs are annoying but yeah with so many other attempts at this style coming out since this one, it definitely puts this albums strengths into perspective.

Production is quite ass, and the record drags on for way too long imo. The highlights are really nice though. As most of you here I do also really like the long winded style this record has (at least for the first half lol)

Even though I am not a fan of this kind of songwriting I must appreciate how Tesseract are a pretty unique combo.
A shame I find them so boring, but they're certainly a thing of their own

Of Reality is pretty good

Nocturne is so damn good it's stupid. How they use the motif of that little three-quarter-note-bass-drum that ends the first riff throughout the song. The way the riff in that first verse unfolds and shapeshifts. The ending. Yeesh... tragically nothing else they've done comes close, IMO.

May have underrated this on release. Not as heavy as One, sure, but some nice grooves and atmosphere, and a sight better than a lot of what followed in this scene. The climax to Retrospect is otherworldly.
