Boney to my knowledge the average has never gone below a 4, stabilized there for some time until it went up just recently

Ah, fair enough Dylan, having not been on the site at the time that was mere conjecture on my part. Regardless I still think the general opinion on this has gradually improved.

At the very least I can get someone finding this or Boxer to be pretty dull
Alligator and High Violet are both incredible though

I don't like the genre as a whole, and yea I am young so, yea, there ya go
no more needed of me in this thread

this album right here is what really got me into them. i mean, i liked them before but i didnt love them. for some reason this album acted as a kind of gateway to make them one of my top 5 favorite bands. then i fell in love with everything Alligator and on.

I was lukewarm towards these dudes at first. "Racing like a Pro" was my first National song and I loved it instantly, but was disappointed when the rest of Boxer (initially) failed to leave the same impression. Eventually that album grew on me and I moved on to Alligator, and then High Violet was the one that blew me away and made me realize there was a decent chance these dudes could become one of my favorite bands.

This is probably third out of the four I've heard
Violet > Gator > Trouble >= Boxer imo
About a month or so ago this and Boxer would have been the other way around, time has been kind to this one

It's really close, Boxer has higher highs ("Racing like a Pro" and "Slow Show" are nigh untouchable) but also has a couple lulls peppered throughout. The highlights are in greater quantity here ("Heavenfaced," "This Is the Last Time," "Pink Rabbits," "Don't Swallow the Cap," "Sea of Love," etc.) and the album feels more consistent throughout imo
