people complain about music becoming trendy, or "getting too much hype" but the fact of the matter is, TWY are as big as they are for a reason. Pop punk is becoming (or maybe has already become) just another over saturated genre, and this band has always released an album that can be looked at as "genre saving". Everything they release is fantastic, and honest, and different from other pop punk bands. I personally love this band, and think this is by far their best work.

My only problem with this is that the second half (from "Teenage Parents" onward) on this isn't as inspired as Suburbia's. I mean, the songs definitely hold their own despite not being super original (that's actually extremely impressive in itself) but I gotta hand it to Suburbia for being more varied with stuff like "You Made Me Want to Be a Saint" and "I Won't Say the Lord's Prayer" keeping you glued right up to the end.

the song structures and instrumentation on this are not as varied as on Suburbia, which i think help with the overall cohesiveness of this album but definitely makes it not as creative or grasping, initially.

Love this album, the structure to the ending track has been done before a few times I can think off. Like on Cartels album Chroma. Although this album as a whole is just way better.

honest question here, what exactly do you guys hear in this that makes it so much better or different from other pop punk bands? not trying to start an argument or anything, just curious

For me it's the lyrics (this is for TWY in general), they're way more personal than most punk pop. Soupy doesn't have the typical punk pop voice either.

Also, I know having a good drummer in a punk pop band isn't new, but this guy is an absolute machine.

To answer Kman's question, and this also pertains to my soundoff:

Some previous comments state that pop-punk is made for teenagers, simple, not taken very seriuously, etc, etc....

This stigma originates back with blink-182, Sum 41, New Found Glory and the like, who brought the genre to

prominence in the early 2000's (as this reviewer points out, the time where the genre was as "mainstream" as its ever

been). Now take a look at bands like Handguns, I Call Fives, Man Overboard (to an extent), and other similar bands in

the genre right now, and you find the culprits for the perpetuation of this stigma onto modern day pop punk as a

whole. Their songs are simple musically, can be about immature or funny subject matter, and often sounds the

same.

Now take a look at bands like The Wonder Years, The Story So Far, Transit (even though their last album sucked), and

similar bands that are arguably held up to a higher standard within the community. For me, and for other diehard

fans of the genre with a trained ear and dedication to really listen, it's a no-brainer as to what separates these bands

from the rest. Wildly advanced skill level on their instruments, impressive songwriting capabilities, more mature

subject matter and relatability, various sounds and techniques, and i could go on and on. It's a matter of taking the

genre to a new level and reputability lyrically, musically, and thematically.

Now I know no one read that, but there's my answer.

I'm impressed by the amount of users that rates albums on first listen (or soon after).

It's more of a tentative rating for me, usually changes at least 3 to 4 times before I finally move on.
