"It's excellent pop-punk music, that's really all that needs to be said. This isn't a genre where it's worthwhile to describe what the instruments are doing, how they interact etc."
Yes it does, if this album does nothing to set itself apart soundwise then it is just mediocre drivel with a veneer of good lyrics

"Needs moar sound description."
I have a lot of trouble writing this, because I hate reading it. Especially about the instruments, and what Lucidity said.

yeah Hep I definitely see your angle, and I agree with what you say (even though I'm not well-versed in this genre at all). The thing is that I don't think he ever makes any claims that could be disputed by saying he doesn't know enough about the genre, because it's a review written about a group of people, a portion of the population. So he talks about the albums that all your friends had scribbled on their high-school binders and not the true legends of the genre, necessarily. I mean, it's a Wonder Years review, so I think right from the bat, he's speaking about a certain "type" of pop-punk, if you want to say that. If he started talking about The Queers or House Boat or The Lawrence Arms whoever the hell else (see how pleb I am? that's the best I can do off the top of my head), it would be kind of missing the point and largely irrelevant. Plus, it would be seen by you (I'm guessing here) as insulting, to compare "someone like this" to "bands like that."
tldr, I get your points and kind of agree, but still defend that it's a good piece of writing. I also love playing nice with you #hearts

That "better band" argument is pointless. Ever heard a "shitty" album that you couldn't help but like? That kinda thing dismantles that argument at the very foundation. That "it" factor usually can't be quantified or explained and it isn't the same for everyone.

I am also very jealous of how involved in the scene you are. We have somewhat of a punk revival thing going on in Vancouver right now, but it's not that big, nothing like the 90s. Lots of good indie rock though mmmmmhm.

Nope, it sets itself apart by performing pop punk excellently. It refines all the elements common to the genre and presents them in a slick, easily enjoyed manner. It takes a formula and executes it wonderfully. Going into the sonic details really isn't interesting commentary, the angle of this review is.

Loling at the aggressive rating deflation campaign. 15 ratings sub 2.5. I can't see anyone justifiably giving this anything less than a 3. If any of you have the guts to speak up as to why you gave it such a low rating (other than it sux or is overrated) please speak up because I'd love to see what issues you take with what they've put together.

because it's average as fuck and really doesn't do much to make itself stand out from most other pop punk bands out there imo
plus it's a total chore to sit through
sorry you don't understand how opinions work man but yeah there you go

it's probs just cause i just don't like the general sound of this type of pop punk but i honestly can't see what makes this stick out from bands like tssf or nfg or other bands that play the same style. it all just sounds really samey samey imo

That's an alright justification. I feel that way about their early material. Stop trying to sound like
a hoodlum though it doesn't work for you.
