Yeah but he qualifies it by saying he was on a scholarship, so he was paid for, and hated it anyway

and kudos to him for doing what he loves regardless of the pressure a place like that must put on you to be a high flyer

I'd say it's more like a folk punk singer sold out wembley so he realized he couldn't sing about punk stuff anymore so he made a pop-rock album

if you think mumford are capable of writing a song like the fisher king blues then you're an idiot

the songwriting here isn't even interesting or engaging though besides a few, lone standouts... that's what makes the mumford comparison especially apt
and thanks romulus haha I wasn't expecting anyone to agree

i mean when eric said that this album was anyone trying to make a "punk" album is where he totally lost me

no I said it sounds like mumford trying to make a punk album
which wouldn't result in a punk album probably duh

this album doesn't have genius songwriting (and neither do any of his other albums) but his stuff is far from the cookie cutter a>b>c folk of mumford

I love how good he is at writing about everyday stuff. As you say, not genius, and it doesn't have to be, but it's so easy to relate to how he writes. I just love that.
