I'd say it's more like a folk punk singer sold out wembley so he realized he couldn't sing about punk stuff anymore so he made a pop-rock album

the songwriting here isn't even interesting or engaging though besides a few, lone standouts... that's what makes the mumford comparison especially apt
and thanks romulus haha I wasn't expecting anyone to agree

i mean when eric said that this album was anyone trying to make a "punk" album is where he totally lost me

no I said it sounds like mumford trying to make a punk album
which wouldn't result in a punk album probably duh

Yeah, that's nonsense. This album rocks, just heard it through for the first time 2 seconds ago. Fucking awesome.

I love how good he is at writing about everyday stuff. As you say, not genius, and it doesn't have to be, but it's so easy to relate to how he writes. I just love that.

Losing Days, Broken Piano, Four Simple Words, Oh Brother, all cookie cutter as fuck and saccharine and trite a la Mumford
maybe it's not 'better' per se but I really enjoyed the songwriting style of Love, Ire, Song so much more where Frank really had a knack for highlighting line after line, and I feel like his voice was much more a focus rather than just the simple, sort-boring guitar chords
