I hardly ever listen to Boards of Canada , however I get a BoC vibe when listening to this. I'm probably off base on that observation ;nonetheless, I think it warrants a BoC, Flaming Lips back-to-back listening.

One of the best bands ever. This isn't as amazing as Embryonic, but it's a gripping listen.

Both are very different, but Embryonic is a much more exciting listen imo. This flows beautifully, but it doesn't have the same energy and punch of songs like Silver Trembling Hands, The Sparrow Looks Up at the Machine, and Aquarius Sabotage.

Some parts of Embryonic are just a waste though

Like I Can Be A Frog which is just .....

This is just their most consistent record, and Turning Violent might be the best song they've ever done

I Can Be a Frog is the only subpar song on that album for me though. Everything else rules imo.

Be Free, a Way is one of my favorite Lips songs ever, but I definitely wouldn't say this album is as consistent as Soft Bulletin, Clouds, or Embryonic. I love how bleak they sound on here though. Hope they keep going down this dark route.

*one month later* yeah this is basically on equal level with Soft Bulletin for me

Title track is easily top 10 songs they've ever done

How the fuck they managed this 30+ years into their career is beyond me
