IDK this comes of as a bit overrated for me too because I think Kismet/Destiny rules and this is kind of a cheaper copy of that, but as a stand-alone it still rules pretty hard.

Asteroids VIP on the new EP (that you can get now)

Yeah, but Mantra is the real reason why you should get it.

I gotta say, I think Asteroids VIP just completely destroys both the original Asteroids and Over My Head. Like, throw your version of Asteroids into the trash can level of improvement over the original. Both versions here are cool and all, but the VIP just has that extra layer of atmosphere that pushes it over the edge and kind of changes it from an unimportant bassweight experiment into an impacting moody piece that competes with some of the genre's best IMO.
I agree that Mantra is cool and think the EP as a whole is a good listen, but Asteroids VIP is by far the selling point for me.

I mean, I like the VIP, but for me the uncompromising minimalism of the original gets the edge. The vocals of Over My Head have worn off me a bit, I must say.

I definitely wouldn't argue against the strength of the original's minimalism. But my biggest complaint (and I've stated this before in this thread) is that Out Of Reach/Kismet accomplished that same exact minimalism much better than Asteroids did, so this release just feels kind of redundant to me.
But Asteroids VIP distances itself from that similarity with the moody vocal track, and it really becomes a completely unique track with its own mood and atmosphere. I just think the track can finally stand on its own, and I don't have to think of it as a lesser version of Out Of Reach/Kismet.

The VIP doesn't have vocals. Or am I missing something here?
Out of Reach / Kismet was a pretty bit release, but still confined to the boundaries of dungeon type dubstep imo. The original Asteroids here manages to escape those confines and have a certain style/mood/whathaveyou on its own.
To each their own of course, but this release in particular shows that V.I.V.E.K has a vision that's more unique and removed from the typical cliches of the Younx-inspired dungeon stuff.

I just meant the celestial sort of vocal tracks he uses, not like "Over My Head" lyrical stuff.
I think I must get a different mood out of OOR/Kismet, I don't associate it with the typical dungeon stuff. I do think both releases stand out from the monotony of that style quite a bit.
But yeah man it's obviously just a difference of opinion, I'm not trying to say I'm right, just kind of elaborating on why my rating for this is a little low, despite thinking the track is really solid on its own.
