Yeah all the features work for me. I only heard migration once and didn't rly have much of an opinion on it. Should revisit it.
On here my favourites are polyghost, Otomo, Tides, Elysian and Age of Phase

Migration was bonobo at his most diluted, commercial, lowest common denominator in his whole career. There was maybe one or two worthwhile tracks. Shit was garbage. The singles for the new one alone make it look like it’ll be a little bit better but not a whole lot

I just finished it. Gonna listen back to Migration (which I’ve never made it the whole way through in a sitting) and see how it compares now after a couple years.
New one was as benign as expected but pleasant as usual. It’s still got a lot of problems typical of post elevator music Bonobo, not the least of which being the fact that he releases 80% of the meat of the album as singles, most of which are clumped together, a trend which tends to ruin the novelty of first impressions with an album. It’s a pretty limp-dicked affair with only a couple real hard-ons (when the o’Flynn track drops for instance) but my gut tells me it’s better than migration.
The joji song is fucking garbage tho…

New one is definitely solid, returns may be diminishing on repeated listens mind. I like it a fair amount more than this one, although my memory is hazy.

The new ones album cover is absolutely stunning

“returns may be diminishing on repeated listens mind”
Most of the singles (aside from joji and jamila which both suck) have grown on me rather than diminished so perhaps not. Better start than Migration which started off diminished and was never returned to.
This is much better than new one tho

You're absolutely right occy, about so many things. We're not going to agree and that's fine of course, but I do get where you're coming from now. Thanks for explaining through this weird medium of text on the internet!
Also the cover of the new one is gorgeous indeed! Checking it tomorrow or maybe next week if I don't have the time.

Days to Come, Animal Magic, and Black Sands are all better than this and elevator music era bonobo reigns supreme but North Borders was a welcome and necessary stylistic development at a time when Bonobo would have otherwise just been retreading the same old material. It was the right move at the right time and it was a lot higher energy than the yoga / spa music era bonobo that came next. Migration was Bonobo pandering too hard to the new basic bitch audience he had opened himself up to with Northern Borders and that’s why it is such a spectacular fail. It’s his “edm” album. I guarantee you festival-folk ate that shit up.

Not to open the can of worms again, but there is so much movement and destination on Magic and Monkey!! Haha, I guess we will indeed never agree about this dude and his albums. But then again, relaxed, yes I get that.
