this is probably their weakest effort imo - melancholy feels forced

best band ever, they can do so much better than this. The Great Destroyer is worse though

their nothing like swans lol but they are indeed worth it. They have a couple releases here and there that are hugely underwhelming (this, great destroyer, trust, long division) but they still manage to be consistent overall, and their best stuff is fucking untouchable (things we lost in the fire)

i would say ˜80% of the people who got promoted recently are master tricksters who can't be taken seriously

i guess, but I would really never compare the two. Swans and Low sound nothing alike, maybe aside from their dark post-rock song "Do You Know How to Waltz?". Swans are nuts across every record and push dissonance/ambitious orchestrations above all else, Low play sad yet melodically warm contemporary folk/slowcore. Polar opposites really, but definitely similar goals in terms of mood at times

also, dont judge them on trust, despite a couple really great songs its barely a 3 and one of their weaker efforts. Things We Lost in the Fire (opus) or Secret Name would be great starting places in terms of accessibility, I Could Live in Hope and The Curtain Hits the Cast would be good places to go after, and are both sensational records

"They have a couple releases here and there that are hugely underwhelming (this, great destroyer, trust, long division)"

agreed, fuck you, oh fuck you, oh dude hella fuck you

"opinions" though, glad we at least agree this is missable. Lakes, don't let this stop you from checking them out, their top-tier is still fucking untouchable.

"yeah i'll start from the beginning and go for their highlights first i think"

ah, nice. yeah, that's the best plan.

porch, do you like this?
