that reminds me I havent listened to them in a while. going to have to fix that. more bands with that sound would be good, for sure. I love my melodeath but there's only so much Insomnium and Belakor worship I can take

I hope they really pursue that sound again, they've kinda moved away from it. Guitar tone is lovely and the softer moments are a treat. "Celestial Tear" is beautiful, especially in its placement on the record.

Is this melodeath though? I don't wanna imply it's metalcore or some such shit. Not that it matters, just like, calling Soilwork melodeath never felt right to me

A decent bit of stuff can fall under the melodeath umbrella without sounding dead-on like the genre's forefathers, it's a wonderful thing.

indeed, though every now and then some respect must be paid to Anders and Co which is why i'm excited about Majesties:

I'd love more atmospheric, post-rock-ish mdm, is that just kinda standard stuff or does it have something special going for it?

its Subterranean-era In Flames worship, but really well done and still feels "fresh." i'd have to do some digging for the post-rockish stuff

Not a weak track here, but for 90 minutes it doesn’t really justify itself imo

I never get bored of it, only track I have an outright issue with is the closer. It's pretty lazy and a very anticlimactic note to end such an epic album with.

I think The Ride Majestic does more with less time, personally. You have to be a special kind of great to justify a 90 minute runtime for ANY album

there aren't many extreme metal double albums that work as well as this one does.

yeah this is melodic death metal, very much firmly placed in the realms of extreme metal.
