In that case, good job with the Similar Bands list.

:D

Seriously though, this isn't a very easy sound to emulate. Caladan Brood get it right for the most part though and are easily the best of the rest

this has some epic motifs in it. every song has some melody or harmony that is definitive and gets stuck in your head -- the vocal piece in Wild Autumn Wind, the piano lick in the solo of Stone and Dust, and that gigantic chorus of Book of the Fallen. it's great.

I remember adding L'Ordre du Temple and doing stuff to the similar bands list as well, haha

Some of the bands included in that video are terrible though, like that Forgotten Land song is just laughably bad.

Gris isn't very similar are they? I listened to a little bit of their second album I believe and it didn't sound much like Summoning or Caladan from what I remember.

Still can't get ahold of their latest record tho.

Their new record is more similar to Caladan. I wouldn't put them in the same sub-sub-subgenre, but the atmospheric/epic black metal elements are similar, as well as the vocals and song structures. Basically if you like one you're likely to enjoy the other. Here's a song to give you an idea.

I probably have a reputation around here for fucking up genres. I group things more loosely than most people apparently. Like, Mastodon, The Ocean, and Intronaut aren't necessarily close in style, but they'd make for a bitchin' show bill so I'd encourage fans of one to listen to the others.

you're good, man. it's not all instrumental but it's got some pieces that are. I need someone with a legit British accent though. there's a spoken intro taken from the diary of British mountaineer who swears to god that something evil chased him down the mountain the project is based around.
