Great review, still haven't quite judged the album, probably going to end up between a 4 and a 4.5

this, to be quite truthful, is a ludicrous beast of an album. Aids may be right

it's the best of both worlds of Autechre when you think about it. Like, most of the reason I can't get into most of the stuff after LP5 is because it's so formless and hard to groove to, even though the music is majestic and creative. Here, he retains the ability to craft these majestic soundscapes, but they're actually cohesive because most of the album actually is based off solid beats (even though the glitch influence is still very much present).

Basically Exai is everything I wanted Confield or Untitled or even Draft 7.30 to be, as those albums frustrated me so much: bursting with potential but nearly impossible to sit through (for me).

Ali I'm not sure if you'll like it, at least not right away. I was committed to getting something out of this album, and I'm glad I kept forcing myself to listen to it, cause after one or two spins I wasn't sold. I had this glorious moment with it yesterday though.

it's completely different to the early era stuff, I hope I wasn't implying that it sounds like Tri Repetae, but I definitely think it's their strongest work in a long time.

It's really different in my opinion too, but I love it. This needs multiple listens to appreciate, but it's worth it.
