Imo, their last two albums, the ones that embrace a more heavy metal approach, are the worst of their career. In the same vein, Allen's voice is growing more macho every passing day... I'd say to stick with what they really know to do, otherwise they will even loose the prog metal fans who support them all these years. And the chain they-say-we-are-prog-metal-the-only-prog-metal-band-people-know-is-DT-they-don't-like-DT-so-they-don't-give-us-a-listen is pretty laughable.

"Allen's voice is growing more macho every passing day"
Agreed, that's really irritating (Adrenaline Mob definitely is a reason for it). With Romeo composing such heavy music Russell probably feels like the aggressive vocals suit it more, but he's at his best when he focuses on melodies and phrasing. Curious to see how the next album will sound.
Yeah blaming the lack of popularity completely on DT is ridiculous. Despite that Symphony X is a pretty big band in its own right. I discovered SX through DT heh

I'd probably love this if the production was up to snuff.

Underrated stuff [2], was in that camp back in 2007, revisit and bumping rate. Better than my memory of it. "Dressed To Kill/The Edge Of Forever/Secrets", fave.

It's crazy how much of a glow-up these guys had from the debut to this, and how much of that was attributed solely to the addition of Russell Allen. Dude is such a legend

Russell is God.
Half of this is amazing, come round to this a good amount despite there being a clear distance between this and the classics that were to come.

Massive improvement from the debut. Feel as though they're missing something in the song writing department. First 4 tracks slay, the last 5 are hit and miss, especially the closer feels like a bit of a letdown.

Imagine this but refined in pretty much every way with no consistency issues and that's the next album. The classics begin then.

This is pretty underrated actually. Yeah, Divine is no doubt a classic, but in turn I feel like this gets overlooked because of that, which is a shame because this has plenty of good stuff as well.
