I don't think so, I find III to be excellent too and written really well, it's the one I listened to in full the most. Dead Silence is my least favorite so far.

I'm used to be in the minority, but I really can't see it as a bad album. It's darker and meaner than I and II, and I feel the band is at their more proficient instrumentally. I even like the production, which seems to be one of the things that people dislike. III has both hard hitters (Pocketful Of Dreams) and some of their saddest songs (White Sparrows). I'll mention The Dead Can't Testify too because it's both of the above (and it's hard to deny that bass).
Hard to pick a favorite album, but if I had to decide based only on 'it works as a full and satisfying listen' III would be my choice.
