Why though? I even have Frames five'd. I don't think there's another band out there that's pulled off this sound this well.

Sometimes we seem to have very different scores when i see you in threads (which happens quite often), so i didn't know.
Frames is my favorite album of all time, so i would be the last to doubt that!

So my record store did 50% off everything and I bought this, Leprous and Intersphere which are all Prog (not really intended, they were just all on my list for such a long time). And as much as I love the talent displayed by all of these bands, I just don't get why 4 out of 5 records I bought need to be longer than one hour. It's just beyond me. It really pulls down my love for it.
That being said: cool band and I seriously need to dive deeper into them

Obviously i would be the first person to concur (regarding you giving them a chance), so i'm recommending Frames. It's probably their least accessible, but by far their most rewarding and (at least to most people who know the band) a modern classic.

Never heard Intersphere, but I completely disagree on the other two. The music is engaging enough to keep your attention until you've sat through the whole thing.

Pika knows what's up
What i love about 'size is that their sound aged wonderfully and their style is really hard to get right imo, some bands tried it and most delievered mixed results

Intersphere is a small german prog band. ofc they don't play in the same league as Oceansize, but still worth checking out. But then again: I've just listened to one record yet.
Regarding the accessibility: I like less accessible stuff because it keeps my attention. If music gets too predictable, simple or repetitive I tend to drift away from it. Happened 2 or 3 times during this album, that's why I said it is too long imo because I would rather erase those sections (can not remember which songs tho).
Anyway, thanks for recommending Frames. Will check out if my record store got that shit. This band has huge potential for me to love it.

Although Frames and Effloresce are absolute masterpieces and this doesn't quite live up those records, Everything Into Position still holds a very special place in my heart. Songs like Meredith and Ornament/The Last Wrongs are just heart-wrenching

Somehow it’s been almost 15 years and I haven’t listened to this. At least I’m pretty sure. Since you’re going through the opeth discography maybe I’ll go through these guys

Oceansize please come back....
So many tasty jams on this thing.

There's been so many post-'Size projects and their discography is so impeccable is that I wouldn't be sure about a reunion
...unless it involved, say, a Frames reunion tour

Even though i'm one of their biggest fans, i'm not sure how good a come back record would be... Vennart still does amazing records with Gambler and Steve Durose, so in a way we still have some sort of Oceansize. The only thing i really miss is them performing more Oceansize songs live

Hey guys what are the post ‘size projects you’re talking about?

Album Rating: 4.5
Well, the two most important are the Vennart "solo project" (which involves Steve Durose and Gambler), and British Theatre, where Vennart and Gambler are teaming up for a electronic duo type of deal. Both are great, Vennart is closer to Oceansize though more accessible (especially the first record, the second one is a bit more out there), while British Theatre explores electronic soundscapes, which are only hinted at in Oceansize (think Mine Host)

Btw they both have their Sputnikpages, so look for the threads and reviews there

Vennart just posted a short snippet of an apparently really heavy and short new punkish song.
He/they are gonna drop a new EP next week. Such great news!
