Young Australian quintet Capture the Crown drag out all of the metalcore cliches for their self-titled debut EP. There's the breakdown-heavy guitars, the occasional infusion of synths & the scream/sing dynamic that makes you wish that lead vocalist Jeffrey Wellfare would just choose one & be done with the other. Of course, there's also the attention-seeking song titles, which would suggest a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, but unfortunately results in profanity & misogyny. The choruses are uniformly catchy, but there isn't a great deal more to recommend on this EP other than the somehow successful cover of Jason Derulo's pop hit 'In My Head'.

In 2012 I thought Ulcerate and Gorguts were the pinnacle of dm. A lot has changed.

And inability to distinguish individual notes on the guitar. Admittedly, Ulcerate are still top 10, but Gorguts aren't even top 25 tbh.

I don't know how I would be able to discern that from any other crunching sound without seeing the act take place. I'm not sure.

I've listened to a lot of dm though. It used to be one of my favourite genres, but in recent times I've found a lot of the classics tiring (with the exception of a few, e.g. Demilich, Entombed, Autopsy, Incantation).
