"I hate it when people put down an hip-hop album because there is "to many skits, instrumental, and singing". Last time I checked, a hip-hop record is not necessarily somebody rapping straight for an hour. Other elements such as singing, and instrumental sections add to music. Instead of viewing the record as individual songs, listen to the album from track 1 to track 12 and view the album as a complete project. While your at it listen to how the individual tracks connect to one another, and how the lyrics all add something to the overall album. Songs such as Backstreet Freestyle (Ignorant kid, showing off to his buddies) or Swimming Pools (Sherane setting him up, combination of the shit in his life on previous tracks send him into alcohol) may not be the greatest track on the album, but it at least adds something to the album. Just like the skits all tie the album together.

Seriously if you take the time to understand what the lyrics you labeled as "trash" actually mean, you'd understand why they were used. Check out this link to help you grasp what everything means on the album http://www.kanyetothe.com/forum/index.php?topic=313364.0

."

It doesn't have to be rapping for an hour straight, but when you have 2x more singing-instrumental time then you have to actual rapping its hard to even call this hip hop a lot of the time let alone a CLASSIC but whatever. stupid music for stupid people i guess

2x more singing-instrumental time? I can think of 3 or 4 songs that you could even try to argue with any logic at all that have more singing/ instrumental then rapping.

Sherane - First song, has an understandable intro, followed by 2 minutes of straight rapping (no singing), then a minute long skit. (Which you easily cut out btw usually simple editing tools) No problems here.

BDKMV- Does have a lot of "singing in it", and I can see why you could possibly not enjoy this track, but it is also 5 minutes long. Off the top of my head I assume it's probably 50/50 singing/rap. Plus the singing isn't even a different person, it's still Kendrick doing his thing (making a hip-hop album, not a rap album) So here's 1, still not 2x more though.

TAOPP- Minute long intro (once again cut it off if it bugs you) that adds to the album. Followed by 4 minutes of rap. No Issue with this track.

Swimming Pools- I can agree with you that this one does have a bit more singing/chorus than it should, but it's still an enjoyable song on the album. So maybe 2 songs now.

Sing About Me/Dying of Thirst-Long ass song, lots of skits. 6 and a half mintues of Sing About Me, Minute Long Skit, 3ish minutes of Dying of Thirst, then 2 minutes of instrumental/skit. Two songs really in one, 12 minutes, and about 9 and a half minutes of rap. 2 and half of skits. You can argue 3 songs here, but the song wouldn't even make sense without the skits.

Real-I can't stand the song because Anna Wise bugs me so much it ruins the song. I completely agree the singing ruins it.

You can say 4 songs have to much singing in it. I do not believe it is even a big noticeable problem on SAM/DOF, or TAOPP. Swimming Pools isn't even to much, just a little to mainstreamy for my liking. So One song (Real) is ruined by singing or instrumentals.

And instead of being ignorant how about you attempt to counterargue what I said. But i assume I'll receive a immature answer as was your last.

it takes til the 7th track for this album to have any originality at all. the first 7 are all stereotypical subject matter (bitches, drugs violence) and style of songs (lots of overwrought productions and choruses). The only songs that has any kind of a dramatic feel that you are talking about is Good Kid, Maad City and dying of thirst. The rest of these tracks are really shallow and poppy. I honestly can't see anyone with their head on their shoulders over the age of 20 really feeling any of these songs besides the one i mentioned. They are childish "bitch dont kill my vibe" type songs. It's typical new corporate dominated rap, something you can only understand if you know the history of rap music and the exponentially growing corporate influence that masses of ignorant fans are oblivious of.

and if you haven't noticed typical rap these days sucks, bad. It is for no one but kids who can't even be honest with themselves or what they stand for because they are so worried about being ridiculed and trying to fit in. thats why 85% of this album is about pussy money drugs or Kendrick trying to brag about being from Compton. Just because he doesn't have the same alpha dog mentality as Game or Dre doesn't mean hes not bragging, hes just bragging about being a bitch basically who does whatever his friends did.

PS i swear i have heard the song compton 1000 times before i ever heard this album.

you are right, its not just the skits and the singing that is wrong with this album, its basically the entire thing besides the middle tracks.

I only say remove the skits because it sounds like you guys enjoy individual songs over a complete album. Or just change to the next track when the skit comes on. amazing isnt it. GaryJohnson just cannot stand the fact that music evolves just like everything else and this isn't just like every album out there. You 3.5'd RAP Music. Obviously you just cannot stand modern hip hop, when the 2 best releases of 2012 are 3'd and 3.5'd. You 4'd RED Album though, and unless you know more and have a better ear then thousands of other true hip-hop fans, then I believe you may be the one who cannot be honest with himself because you don't wanna be ridiculed and wanna fit in. Or, Your a typical go against the grain hipster kid, who hates anyone who starts to experience any sort of success. Kendrick drops this 4 years ago when no one knew who he was and your all on his dick.

"You 3.5'd RAP Music. Obviously you just cannot stand modern hip hop" So I called a new rap album great, therefore I cannot stand 'modern hip hop'... brilliant argument. Except I have been saying Key to the Kuffs is best album to come out in years...by disagreeing with most people I am trying to fit in? very logical

Or, could it be that you have essentially heard only newer rap and are overrating abomination hip pop and trying to call it "hip hops evolution". The problem is hip hop "evolving" doesn't imply becoming entirely contradictory to what it used to be about.

On all but about 3 tracks this sounds like music for gay bars in the 90s.

You know just because you dislike an album, doesn't mean it's a shitty album. Perfect example for me would be Frank Oceans "Channel Orange". I understand that the album is viewed as amazing, and I'm not going to say its music for a gay bar in the 90's. just because it doesn't suit your tastes doesn't mean you gotta give a biased review to start a troll fight, "fag". Maybe your opinion would be more widely accepted if your review had any sort of reasoning to it, without ignorance. By modern I meant new to the genre. Pretty sure Dooms been around a while, although it is an excellent album.

It's a new genre; this isn't hip hop, it's something else. Thats what you don't realize and that's why

you think i'm just complaining when really its you failing to know the genre's history and judge

based on any known criteria rather than your own naive and shallow perspective that 'it sounds cool'.

You cannot tell me that Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe, Money Trees, Poetic Justice, Swimming Pools, and Real is not gay strip club music. I don't care how much money you've spent stuffing ones in man thongs.
