Why would you ever rely on other people's opinions to decide whether to listen to something or not?

Well it is. Get on it. Good bands are good bands. I had no doubts they'd put out a quality album.

It gets better with every listen. I just listened to it for the second time, and it is even better. It's the Soundgarden we were left with in 1996

The weird, experimental, badassery of Down on the Upside isn't touched by King Animal, but hey... it's a decent record. "Black Saturday" is very good.

but I'm one of those guys who likes DotU almost as much, if not more, than Superunknown.

Very nice. Back where they belong. Showing their talent and musicianship. And that voice. Made my day

So nice to hear Soundgarden again but if I have one complaint it's that the songs are all fairly short. One or two 7 minute grooves would have been much appreciated.

after a few more listens I'm really starting to appreciate this much more. Still not as good as the last three albums though.

I think it's on par or a little better than Down on the Upside, but yeah it would be dumb to think this could top their classics

I don't why I struggle with comebacks, and automatically think "gimmicky"...well I thought this all the way till I listened to the album. I guess lesson learned, don't doubt Soundgarden. They look like they haven't lost a step; even gained a bit in the 16 year layoff

Billy corgan says a lot of things, and he took some of the things he said back. The guys got to eat and I don't mind giving them money for this record, most of the cash is earned from touring anyway.

"Applebite" is an amazing song, just want to throw that out there.

Personally, I find Down on the Upside to be just as good if not better than Superunknown, so King Animal doesn't come close to their previous records for me... still. Shit's great.
