Greatest Hits Albums are never the best! especialy with Pink Floyd, every single album is a journey and you have to listen to the whole album to experience the journey they take you on. Just like DVDs, you can skip around to your favorite scene, but you arent gonna experience the whole movie that way....Greatest hits are like watching a bunch of previews from the a bunch of movies by the same director.

Quite possibly my favourite Floyd album.

Shine on you Crazy Diamond isn't about Syd, but about losing someone. They dedicated it for them, for Syd, but it's gmain themei s generally losing someone.

No, you're thinking about Wish You Were Here, which Roger also says that it's about the band not being close anymore, among the other themes. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is entirely about Syd.

Well, thank you for a great review of probably my favourite Pink Floyd album, I must say I agree with you in all you say. I have always thought of it as some kind of tribute to Syd Barret, specially through Shine On You Crazy Diamond (SOYCD) and Wish You Were Here, but I never thought much of the meaning of the to other songs. Its also a great history of how the album was made, considering Syd Barrett showing up when they were recording SOYCD, and the freaky thing that at this moment he had changed that much that they didn't even know him at first. I believe that the scene were Pink shaves of his eyebrows in The Wall, the movie of course, is in someway in reference to this moment when they met Syd because his eyebrows were shaved, but that could be wrong of course.
Anyway, great review, keep up the good work.

Pink Floyd is my favorite band. I got to see them in 94'. I was 16 and it was my first concert. It was incredible! I have been a fan ever since. Wish You Were Here is a great album. This Message Edited On 02.03.06

No way a better review could be written. I love this album. Beautiful, fluid, and wonderfully structured, an album that reflects Pink Floyd's true musicianship, and takes a severe departure from the regular psychadelia that they are known for, yet remain the same great band. Classic.

Nice review SD...seems to be pretty common from you. You're showing a nice variety of reviews too (the Thrice one still being your best). Anyways...there are other better Floyd albums than this one, but Shine on has got to be my favorite song they do. I can totally lose myself in it for 10 minutes, and it'd still be going on. Try listening to them back to back. The album as a whole is a 4/5.

No way is this better than DSOTM on the whole. I cannot think of an album with a better flow/concept.

Roy Harper did the vocals on Have a Cigar, you should add the important fact to your review...other than that it was good.

I still think Pink Floyd is the most overrated band of all time and I can't stand the wall...but this one, I can stand for a little bit before they put me to sleep. It's decent, but so many other great prog bands that are overshadowed by this band.
This is an eh...
