I think he's got a fantastic vocal, actually one of the greatest rock vocals still alive. And this is their best record so far. Their newer stuff doesn't appeal to me that much . So I pretty much disagree with everything you wrote in your review. Still I like "deeper" stuff too but this is one of my favorite records because it makes me smile and spontaneously dance around, and yet there are still some heartfelt moments according to me. I think the hidden track is one of their best. Sorry for my language but I'm not english...

Hmm... Each to his/her own etc. but I personally love this album! Sure its a lot less melodic and complex than some of the other overdubbed, electronica radio hits out there, but I say that's a good thing in many cases...
And sure, they often do have kinda sexist, not 'deep' lyrics (they'd hardly be the first to do that!), but tracks like 'California Waiting' are so honest, and prove KoL to be different from the crowd...

O, and the reviewer may want to check a couple of things: the first is basic sentence structure. The second is the fact that Bob Dylan (as well as Eddie Vedder, Noel Gallagher, Bono and Ed O'Brien) really really likes KoL. Enough to give them a support slot. His favourite track was Trani...

Terrible review. Don't act like poor spelling and atrocious grammar don't matter in a review you PUBLISH on a serious, legitimate review website. Also, your criticism just fall through.

"That Blues- tinged Country Rock sound you've heard a million times over"- back in 2003? Really? The closest thing to their sound back in 2003 was The White Stripes and The Strokes, but KoL created a new sound that mixed elements of the two, along with elements of classic blues and country that for a good twenty years through the 80s and 90s had been totally forgotten in rock music.

"there lyrics are often unbearable"- care to really elaborate? Be a bit more eloquent. No okay.

"awful singing"- if you think that on tracks like Happy Alone, that Caleb is trying to sound like a choir boy then you shouldn't be writing review on rock music.

I was inspired to read old reviews of this album to see which reviewers actually know what they are talking about...you obviously don't! This album is timeless I brought it and listened to it non stop when it first came out in 2003 and I still put it on now (2011) and love all the tracks. All the tracks are just as amazing as when I first heard them 8 years ago. Trani is one of my all time favourites also it has great build up and calebs voice (or howl u might insist) is rad..i'd love to see you have a go at singing trani and give it as much emotion and depth as him.

You pretty much have no idea

Great album & very underrated and kind of sad that it wasn't appreciated more at the time. Worked for me and I wore this out. I listened to KoL from the start and kind of by accident but have always been impressed by their growth. This is the album that hooked me. Disagree with the rating.

I created a profile just to comment on this review. First off, if you think kol is not original, dull, and boring then I'm certain you must be a dumbass. These guys are one of the few real musicians left in this world. Todays world is soo just watered down with shitty music and here comes a band that can rock harder than anyone and can also write one hell of a ballad. (As we see in later albums). I'm sorry these guys don't pull out there iPad and make up some generic beat then add a few words like most rappers and POP artist you hear today. The kings have this thing called talent which is very rare in his world we live in. And calebs voice is awesome. Have you seen these guys live, sounds almost identical to there albums. He doesn't lip sing like those same rappers and POP artist I mentioned. His voice is real and raw you can hear the passion when he sings. And he really SINGS!! These guys put their heart into their music something not many so called "musicians" do. Your an idiot if you think these guys are crap and you might need a hearing aid. Ohh and trani might be the best fucking song ever written. Go watch there live performance of the song at bonnaroo, gives you chills. And if it doesn't, go crawl into the shit hole you came from and just fucking die.

I hope you don't get paid for these reviews. If so your boss needs to be fired. Then you need to go fly to the moon and just fucking stay there. Oh and take your shitty music with you

- You can't spell

- Your writing is rather ranty; rambly ; ineloquent

- Your review lacks logic

- Calling a song like Trani 'boring' is somewhat cringe-inducing. It's like calling an opera boring when you're 10... That cringe.

- I don't see why you're criticising their lyrics; they are better than they need to be for the purpose- in honesty, I'm not sure you know yourself what your problem is.

A lit of the lyrics aren't literal. And that's not me being pretentious: it's the truth of the matter. I don't know if you got that. OBVIOUSLY the spiral staircase isn't literal.
