Finally came around to listening to this and I'm really enjoying it. However, I can not stand "Innocent" at all. I had to skip after a bit. It's a really annoying song to me.

I absolutely love NS. It was the first album I heard from Anberlin and the album that got me into them, so that album holds a very special place in my heart. However, I don't see how anyone could love NS and not love this.
Also, @xtoxin "I mean, I understand if Intentions, Orpheum, Modern Age (disappointing chorus)"
HEY. Modern Age's chorus is one of my favorite moments on the entire album.

I enjoy NS quite a bit too but it lacks a serious punch. It's just really pleasant.
I enjoy Modern Age's chorus too, but after the fantastic verse, it doesn't really live up. Not to mention the vocal effects water it down. And honestly, I think it's the guitar riff in the back that drives the chorus forward.

The guitar does add a lot of atmosphere to the chorus, which is a huge reason I love it so much. The final chorus hits me so hard, though. The quiet part with the "sing oooooon" and then bursting into the chorus is so powerful.

That guitar part is what does it most for me. So simple, yet so effective.

Modern Age live is miles better, you should check out some of the vids on Youtube. The effects make
Stephen sounds really gargled which is one reason why I don't think the chorus quite has the power to
match the buildup of the verses.
Edit: Worth adding that it seems in some of the videos he still trails off his voice on some words
like "all" and "loved" which is part of my annoyance with the chorus. Other videos it's not as
noticeable so

@xtoxin I'm proud to say I saw them live just a few weeks ago and they played Modern Age. It sounded absolutely beautiful live.

I'm so jealous. They were in San Diego the Sunday before they released Vital. Not that I went but I might've gone were the Vital tour then. Now I prob have to wait a year or so to see them. They're actually only an hour away from my house in OC but unfortunately that's the day I leave for India. So mad I'm missing them

Modern Age is one of the best songs. I still like Desires best.

The concert was incredible. It was easily one of the greatest nights of my life.
And Desires' verses absolutely make the song for me. The simple-yet-extremely melodic bass and vocals are killer.

"And Desires' verses absolutely make the song for me. The simple-yet-extremely melodic bass and vocals are killer."
Yeah! I agree. It's also good to hear a break-up song that sounds inspired, versus repeating cliches and platitudes like "who needs enemies when we've got friend?"

The intro and chorus are what does it for me on Desires. Probably Anberlin's heaviest riff I've heard. I likes.
I see you taking shots at To The Wolves, toxin. Uncool.

Dude, c'mon, To The Wolves is so disappointing. The chorus is just a huge cliche, the melody is nothing to write home about, and the solo is one of those tremolo solos I feel we complain about too often.
Like I said before, I love the pre-chorus(?) of "Thought it was me and you against the world/ but you left me to the wolves" and the verses are pretty good too. But the chorus and solo leave much to be desired

I don't know, but I love that song. The chorus does fall flat. I really like the lead guitar, but I wish the rhythm guitar was
doing something more. Feels a little lifeless. Prechorus kicks so much ass tho.
I think Closer is my fave from that album.

My fav is probably Pray Tell. That song works on so many levels and is one of my favorite Anberlin songs. I also really love Art of War but the lyrics are the biggest letdown of any Anberlin song.

Art of War is cool too. Never really thought much of the lyrics, but the music rules. Also really like Down and Impossible is pretty great too.
Does Down remind anyone else of Unwinding Cable Car? I think they are in the same key, maybe that's why it reminds me of it.

My favorite on DITW is a tie between Art of War and Down, or I'd Like to Die if bonus songs are included. Art of War's lyrics are nothing special, but everything else about the song just resonates with me so well. When the synth comes in the intro, it sends a shiver down my spine every time. It's so well executed.

I think the Down/Cable Car comparison has been made before multiple times actually. The riff is kinda similar but otherwise the song has a different vibe so I never thought of it sounding that much the same.

I just noticed it the other day. I hear you, Cable Car has a little more of an uplifting, kind of energetic feel to it and Down is very somber. I just looked and they aren't in the same key, so its not that.

The lyrics are pretty bad so I advise you continue to not think about them much. Down is awesome too, I think I like it more than UWCC. But there's definitely a similarity between it and UWCC. I don't think it's key---I played both on guitar and they have different chords. Down is G Major (but played w/o D Maj which is why it sounds minor) and UWCC is C# minor but don't quote me on either of those.
