yeah but when it comes down to it they are a pretty cool band. saw them live 2 years ago and they're no black veil brides or emmure or all those other terrible godawful scene bands.

I saw them 3 or 4 years ago. A radio station put on a big show with a bunch of bands in Kansas City. I mostly went to see Anberlin (which was awesome) and The Used played a set too. They are a very high energy band and put on a great show.
I've never heard of either of those, Atari. Sounds like I'm better off from what you say. I remember listening to a lot of Story of the Year and Silverstein back when this was going on.
Has anyone ever noticed that a lot of bands that were considered screamo back then are now filed under post hardcore?

wasn't screamo just another name for post hardcore?
and yeah story of the year and silvertein aren't bad either.

Maybe, but I don't ever remember anyone calling it that back then. I had never really heard the term post hardcore until a couple years ago. They have separate Wikipedia pages, but I don't know if that's enough to validate it, lol.
I think Emery was thrown into the screamo category too, along with Senses Fail and Dead Poetic. I think people referred to A7X as screamo when they first came around too.

Oh, yeah. I have all their stuff except Let it Enfold You. The lyrics on that album were a little disturbing for me. I love Still Searching and I really enjoyed The Fire and Life is Not a Waiting Room.

@atari thats funny, man. me and my buddy used to do oxy and we'd have a playlist and there was this one Hawthorne heights song that was all "shine on diamond eyes," and it was all "trying hard to wait til morning"
and we related it to our opiates as well
anyway sorry for bringing HH into this discussion lol

@Hospital, nice haha and who didn't listen to HH back In the day? Yeah man no drugs for me now (other than weed) but that song will always remind me of my youthful , IDGAF kinda days
|
| |
haha, right? i think they get a lot of undeserved hate for being pretty much the "it" band at the height of the faux-emo craze
yeah, only herbals for me as well
but i like to relax and relapse sometimes!

I don't know if the hate was undeserved... They are a pretty terrible band. Don't get me wrong, I had their first album too. I actually found my copy again not too long ago and tried to listen to it for old time's sake. My ears were not happy with me for the rest of the day.

I can't relapse cause I have an addictive personality and don't wanna get caught up in that shit again. Sure it can be fun, but I've watched drugs destroy my best friends life and he's still struggling.
hawthorne heights released an EP called hate a year ago or so and it was actually not that bad.
|
| |
Wow, I can relate to that a lot too, especially the best friend portion
yeah i liked the hate EP
i like a good bit of shoddy post hardcore, though

wasn't screamo just another name for post hardcore?
Far from it. Screamo used to be a branch of hardcore that was extremely violent in sound and lyrics. Around the beginning of the 2000's, kids started calling any band with screaming in it screamo and absolutely bastardized the term until the point where if you said you liked actual screamo(Entry level bands: Orchid, Pg. 99, City of Caterpillar, etc.), people would just assume you meant this generic brand of post hardcore (the Used, Hawthorne Heights, Story of the Year, etc). To combat this, the term "skramz" was coined in a highly joking manner that eventually caught on. And this ends your daily lesson of punk history, brought to you by the king of xing, James Franco.

I thought The Used had like 4 or 5 hits and three of them are on In Love & Death, not this album.
