Good to see someone still keeping the thread alive. Just wish there was more Nephilim chat. I’m hoping there might be a chance I get to hear a new album before I retire. Unlikely though….

Nothing has ever knocked this off my number one spot since it was released. A life defining album.

Was this your first Nephilim record Watchman, were you a fan before its release, how was it viewed at the time in general?
I do remember them solely from a poster on me best mates brothers bedroom wall around 1991. Didn’t actually listen properly till a good fifteen to twenty years later but this album is absolutely amazing.

Still amazed this album was made, truly a masterpiece and easy contender for favorite record of 1990. If only Painkiller didn't exist

@zakalwe
I stumbled upon them, as if by fate, when I went through a phase on every pay day of my student days part time job, to go to Our Price and select an album purely based on the album artwork. 1988 and in the new releases saw The Nephilim - read the inscriptions written inside and it had the lyrics to two songs as I remember and I was like - this sounds amazing. Took it home and nothing could have prepared me for what was about to hit me. Suffice to say I went out and bought everything that had released on vinyl up to that point. I’ve been obsessed ever since. Even managed to include them in my main thesis at Uni. I think the psychonaut 12 inch really prepared for how the band were changing between 88 and 90 and as far as I am concerned Elizium really delivered on the cosmic and psychedelic heights that Psychonaut had reached. Amongst other Neph fans that I knew it was a masterpiece and realisation of everything had been heading towards; musically and lyrically.

Being tagged a goth meant they were subject to regular ridicule from Melody Maker. They didn’t sound the vaguest bit goth, not really. Just convenient to tag and bag them. Then again what did MM know - they killed off Shoegaze and look how much esteem that movement has gandered over the years since it’s demise.

Amazing!
The Nephilim in the ‘new releases’ section of Our Price and the future is mapped out. Doesn’t get any better.
