It's very close, but overall I prefer the production and increased role of the guitar here.

Haven't given the post-Moving Pictures albums the amount of listens they deserve because the shift in sound after Hemispheres isn't my cup of tea. Regardless though I can feel the quality on those albums.

I love CA but think all their 80s albums are a bit better, except for Presto. CA is better than all their 90s and 2000s ones tho.

Am I the only person who finds this a lot less interesting than Subdivisions? It's a good album but I don't feel like these songs go much of anywhere; at least Subdivisions has dynamic song structures usually
Please enlighten me because I really want to like this album more than I do

CA has a few of my favorite Rush songs released after the 80s but as a whole I don't really get this holy status it has. I definitely prefer S&A quite a bit more album-wise. I'd definitely take Presto over it too, since it's been mentioned above.

It's true that at times GUP is more traditional in structures, but personally it compensates in emotions, from the sadness of Red Sector A to the playfulness of Kid Gloves. It's not like it's an orthodox album anyway, just look at the middle part of Red Lenses or the machine-like playing of The Body Electric. I can see how this could sound a bit boring if for some reason you don't find it particularly emotional.
@Mano: I think you'll dig the heavier sound of the 90s-00s. Give a shot to the song Far Cry, bet you'll dig hard. That said be aware that most of the rest of S&A is far from happy music (and I love it for that!)

Far Cry is very very sweet. These guys are geniuses. Combining complex elements with ultra melodic and catchy moments is not an easy feat.

Indeed they are special. They're known for the prog epics but there are people (like me) who actually stayed for the emotive side

Sabrutin, great rec for Manos bro and I agree....for his tastes. I'd recommend Vapor Trails and CA for the Manoster!!!
