I second that you listen to Shadows Are Security, Ecnalzen.
Confined, Through Struggle, and Reflection are some of my favorite AILD songs.

Appreciate the suggestions guys. I never really checked this band out fully because I wasn't too into metalcore/post hardcore that had the majority of the vocals be harsh. Lately though, I have been getting into stuff like Misery Signals, Poison The Well and Every Time I Die so I thought I would give AILD another go.

Still really dig this album. They can do better but Tim totally kills it, his performance on this and The Powerless Rise has made him one of my favorite vocalists in the genre. And even if the rest of the band is capable of more they have yet to fail to keep me entertained.

This is brutal. I've only listened to three As I Lay Dying albums ("An Ocean Between Us", "Shadows Are Security", and recently "Awakened", I must listen to "The Powerless Rise").

I'm not that impressed by the album itself. However, the title of the album and the lyrics indicate what I said about their previous album. While some might claim they're a christian band I claim that not only that they aren't a christian band but the obviously anti-religious lyrics make them the opposite.
"Reality no longer battles perception.
Sincere,
I sought your truth and divine purpose through myths of revelation.
Guidance all wrapped up in a paper box,
supported only so long as my mind was the enemy.
I could not in conscience hold on.
I wish there was another way,
but no amount of devotion can fix this."
It's obvious, he has lost his faith...or they all have, the battle to come to terms with it is obvious in the song "Overcome."
While some might have argued that their last album wasn't atheistic while I claimed it was, lyrics like
"
So close to the truth
But still impossible
It was never one thing
And too many try to add up
Fueled by faint deception
Conflict without acknowledging opposition
All because I had taken pride in my hidden lies"
show that I was right all along.
I'm still not impressed though, but it might have to do with me outgrowing metalcore.

The lyrics to Upside Down Kingdom leave no shadow of doubt that Lambesis is Christian, same for The Sound of Truth. I
think what separates As I Lay Dying apart from other "Christian" bands is that they focus a lot of angrier songs on feeling
helpless as if they were deserted by God. Oh Sleeper does that too

So uh... Tim arrested for trying to have his wife killed. Holy fuck. I really REALLY hope that this turns out to be false.
