I listened to this album a couple of days ago driving through McDowell County in West Virginia with one of my college friends, and I finally understood it since that county was the heart of the coal boom for generations. I grew up and still live in the county bordering it and it has its fair share of poverty, but McDowell County literally has third-world poverty and has had it for over 50 years. Most of the houses along the main road have holes in them, many of them don't have roofs, and many of the people that we saw were walking around without shoes and looked like they were decades older than they actually were.
There are definitely issues with cohesion, but just the fact that this album exists and tells the story of Appalachian experiences in impoverished places like this, it's forgivable in my view.

I can definitely appreciate the concept and what he was going for, but this album just doesn't do anything for me :/

Whoops I meant a 4 but yeah the clash between bluegrass and black metal as presented on this album has grown a lot on me
