meh, new song better not be typical of the album - has zero of their old identity.

Generic shoegaze, this sort of stuff will leave them chasing Wild Nothing and yeah, MBV obviously if they're lucky...Yuck and The Horrors if they're not.

Dunno, bands have put one shoegaze on an otherwise different sounding album (see the awesome Morning Light on Girls 'album') so hoping that's what's going on here.

Otherwise sub standard 'Loveless' copyists here we come

if they kept going in the direction of Bloom or Teen Dream, I think I would be pretty bored by the lack of diversity they've been putting out. they're really good song writers first and foremost in my mind so I have confidence in them, whatever sound they decide to take on

the best part of the new song is it's different but still retains some of the sound from this album, particularly from Other People which is my favorite on here

I disagree, you need to know your strengths. Legrand is one of the most distinctive singers out there and their lyrics are great too. Thinking they may have got the balance a bit off here, sounds totally different, could be anyone singing over this

I'm with you on that, I would like to see more assertive singing on the rest of the album. "Sparks" is just one song though and I'm sure they'll make songs where Legrand's voice and lyrics are the focal point, and in combination with their new sound the album should be incredible. I just think they should progress their sound past what it is exhibited on Teen Dream and Bloom, even though I love both those albums

I see where you're coming from Doofus, and I agree to an extent. I love Legrand's voice and it really makes this album for me, and I guess it would be somewhat of a shame if it's drowned out for the sake of aesthetic. But at the same time, the bottom line is (at least to me), if it sounds as good as this new song I don't really mind tbh

Tbh I wouldn't mind a whole album like Sparks

I'd probably 4.5 it

"Generic shoegaze" lol

idk, their new song didn't do all that much for me. seemed a lot more like mbv than beach house
