The former has such a great guitar solo.

PL's guitar solos are always great. They are not very flashy or technical but they carry such an emotional punch.

PL's lead guitar work has always been their weak point imo, especially in the albums pre-Draconian Times

Nonsense, that guitar is classic.
Drumming is their weak point.

Agreed with Egarran. Their lead guitars are always on point imo

What about stuff like 0:35 in Angel Tears or 0:39 in As I Die, where the lead guitarist is literally playing in the wrong key?
I agree that their lead guitar work has gotten better over time but there are early examples of some pretty major blunders in the lead guitar department despite the rest of the music being really good

Love that album cover.

Yeah, Pleb, one of my favourites.
Drumming is indeed their weaker aspect. Sure, the lead guitar may have had its off moments (I think they even acknowledge one example in the Gothic re-issue liner notes), but for most of their discography it has been vital to their albums' quality.
