Lyrically great, very very sound for its genre, you can tell it'll make a large influence in the world of music in the UK.
I can't wait for their second.

I live in the USA. I've never picked up an NME. I never knew about all the hype surrounding them in the UK.
I heard about this band from a friend, and feeling rather adventurous, I bought this album the next day. After a few listens I began to enjoy it. And now I can honestly say it's one of my favorite albums to date. Every song is at least decent.
And this is coming from someone who enjoys Tool, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden... As well as NOFX, The Casualties, and Anti-Flag.
The Arctic Monkeys rock, overhyped or not.

I saw an NME and it said -
"Is This It - Five Years Young -How the Strokes saved music"
Naturally, I wanna slap that magazine's momma.

It's pretty generic. It's not bad, just sounds the same too often.

Yeah... I like every song on the album except for Riot Van, but I've never been much for slow songs.
But my favorite has to be Still Take You Home... It's so catchy!
And this is one of only like 4 albums I gave a perfect 5 to today...

I've being listening to of 11 of the 13 songs on the record since last summer because of the band posting the demos on the internet and I think it's still a strong record. If they spent more time on it (it was recorded in just under 3 months) it could have being better, one or two songs do sound rather rushed and the two 'new' song (track #5 and #7) don't measure up to the older stuff but apart from that it's bloody excellent. Definitely one to put up there with Oasis, Velvet Underground, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, The Libertines and The Clash on my 'Favourite Debut Albums' shelf. This Message Edited On 11.13.06

Good review, but I can't stand "Fake Tales Of San Francisco." The song "I'd Bet You'd Look Good On The Dancefloor" is okay.

Well not that it hasn't been said already but this album is top. Paints a good picture of life in the inner city tbh. The only weak track is riot van which rolls over pretty quick anyway. The highlight of the album is A Certain Romance.

There's a new Ipod commercial out and I'm digging the song that plays in the background, but unfortunately the commercial doesn't say what the band is. I think it's the Arctic Monkeys though, can anyone confirm that?
