Whoa, Anthracks admits these guys aren't very good. Didn't see that coming.

I did not say they aren't good. This is probably very good. I'm just sick of TDM. Noctambulant is one of the greatest metal albums of all-time and Jonas Bryssling is in the top 5 death metal songwriters ever for me.

So I am jammin hard to this right now m/! The Evangelist is sick, although I could see what people mean about it not being memorable.

anything becomes memorable if you listen to it enough. something "not being memorable" is just a modifier people tend to ascribe to albums that are not immediately digestible, which, for me personally, is much preferred (and a staple of death metal to begin with).

i just hate the style that many of these modern tech bands have taken, this ultra noodly wankfest that lacks any real direction musically. they seem to just fly past and go nowhere really fast, and i just dont enjoy listening to it very much

the thing is, spawn is pretty much the only band that is both "noodley" and "possessing substance." it's been their reputation from day 1. "noodling" is an envelope that has been pushed since the dawn of metal; it is the purpose of metal to be the fastest, to be the most aggressive, and this is one way of going about that. not many people complain about bach being hyper-noodley, despite his music being more technical than all of these modern bands (and most of the time, Bach was technical just for the sake of being technical...constantly striving for new ways to push the limits of technicality in music)

but it really doesnt have anything to do with whether i think its technically sound or not. these guys know their instruments, theres no denying that. i just cant stand listening to that style of playing

neither can i at the moment (hence the rating), but i dont go around making empty claims that there is no substance or direction behind it. it just isnt my thing right now
