Review Summary: some say shes naive
This album is often considered Deaths worst album, and while that may be true, it doesnt mean its ***ing bad in any way shapes and forms. Chuck obviously knew the ***ing grand design of the album before he recorded it, you can tell these songs were written in his wintery cove while waiting for fellow god James Murphy to enter his humble abode and join him in his quest. When James finally joined they made history with this legendary art. Apart from maybe Human, this album features the best second guitar player in the history of Death, the team up is fucking pure legendary, and even though James Murphy did not contribute to all the fucking songs on the album, you can tell he helped place the curves and lines of it. Chucks sharp evil sounding leads trade off with James's clean as *** ones so ***ing well its hard to explain, just listen. The first song titled LIVING MONSTROSITY needs no intro, straight away we are in full thrash *** mode, damn it rules so ***ing hard. The main riff is legendary, the metal flows cunting hard and as you would expect the solo trade off between Chuck and James is perfection and *** anyone that thinks otherwise. The next track ALTERING THE FUTURE is famous as it deals with abortion and he rules hard the song just rules, awesome main riff? check, best solo ever? check, faggot clean bridge trying to force faux variety? neck. Half way through the album you may be thinking, damn this rules but surely theres got to be a lighter slower song to change it up a bit? nope and thats the way it should ***ing be. This is the album where Chuck stopped writing lyrics about sacrificing cunts and moved onto crazy ass important issues like abortion and other gay ***, while you may be thinking THAT ISNT METAL, stop right there because you are stupid, its Chuck Schuldiner, he knows how the metal flows and what he says goes. Production here is clear as diltch as you'd expect from Scott Burns, The guitars are sharp, the bass is slightly audible and the drums are ok. Chucks vocals here are brutal and true, while he doesnt shriek like crazy as he did on the previous albums, he roars like a duck, he seems to have some effect on them too, which is pretty crazy sounding but it rules ***. The title track is Chucks legacy in music form, the slow paced riff is heavy as *** and the tapping in the chorus makes my dick hairs stand on end. The solos is also one of chucks best, as is james's.
Spiritual Healing is an overlooked album in Deaths discography, it is the transition from the classic brutal style into a more intellectual and technical fist that rules even harder than before, and while this album didnt perfect the sound like Human did, it paved the way for that album so just for that alone you gota respect that ***, oh and James Murphy who is constantly riffing, riffs of passion, from the soul, caressing your every fibre, riff. Some people such as Kimm will be offended by the lyrics of truth, especially on Altering the Future but who cares. Shes a stupid bitch.
