[Rating42878194] Lots of style; no substance. Dream pop that favours an ingenuine atmosphere in the stead of hooks and good songwriting barely deserves the label.

i honestly thought i would like it because i love the genre but this was a mish mash of mundane electronica and dismemberment of dream pop

"Dismemberment of dream pop" is a great description but I see that as a positive. I think Downer might have brought up Braids a few pages back and I see the comparison, though to the related project Blue Hawaii; Grimes seems to be approaching her electro-pop with an affinity for the sinister sounds of Silent Shout and the like without ever actually pulling her own claws out. I find it immensely enjoyable for that reason, the disconnect between atmosphere and emotion. As beguiling and amorphous as her earlier works but with a new muscular bed of music, custom of rising stars such as this who successfully carve their own niche. Quality pop album. Some nifty '90s R&B influence too. Doesn't sound forced.

Yeah this album is real cool.

'"Dismemberment of dream pop" is a great description but I see that as a positive.'
I meant that in a negative way though, i.e. they/she have taken the typical tenets of the genre, tried to deconstruct it in order to be innovative but failed. I just found large portions of the album to be completely uninteresting and not very inviting.
