Poor Heritage, with this silly thread... 🍃

This era of Opeth gotta be one of the most underrated eras of a band ever

It was doomed to be underrated at best. Opeth going full grandpa 🪨 gave the diaper rash-suffering parts of their fanbase an aneurysm, and also pale communion and sorceress are still hella mid entries even if the majority of their fans are more open-minded

I definitely prefer Pale Communion and Sorceress to this

Koris don’t hurt me like this please

Sorry, I just think this is the most aimless, directionless album Opeth ever made. There are still good songs of course, but there's so much meandering bullshit that offsets it. Thankfully, the next three albums would significantly improve on what they did here imo

Tbh fair, but feel like it comes across here more as looseness than aimlessness, which contributes to a sort of uneasily pastoral atmosphere that none of the albums after this one come close to, and also keeps it a lot less predictable and engaging across the runtime
Love this album to death it is top 3 Opeth minimum

I completely agree with porc here
This is also easily one of their darkest albums imo

Yeah man. Both this and Pale Communion could perfectly be top 3 Opeth. It's crowded up there though...

Certified top 10 Opeth album. Top 3? Do you guys even metal?

'I definitely prefer Pale Communion and Sorceress to this'
ouch, that hurts my eyes
this and 'In Cauda' are waaaaaay ahead of the other two for me - PC and Sorceress are the only two Opeth albums I genuinely dislike

I know this is a unique (and based) opinion that no one has really expressed here before this very moment, but I actually prefer their metal albums to this trash

Fuck that noise
Listening to more than one Opeth metal song in a row = the sound of constipation. This + Morningrise are probs the only two records I've heard from them where I feel like I can fuckin breathe

I mean all their metal albums have ballads and shit (even within the metal songs themselves) so I dont really get how it could be all that suffocating
|

Stop ruining your attention span then Johnny. ~10 minutes mixed style songs is where this band is at and the best albums are obviously meant for the whole experience. There is so much varriance inside every single song of the earlier albums that the said constipation seems like a personal problem. Either diatary habbit of short, sweet and easy to digest musical pieces, or just the plain old not liking the style of the band.
this and 'In Cauda' are waaaaaay ahead of the other two for me[2]
