I think this is well within Mendez' comfort zone, I think he's always had the groove, and he kind of told Mikael to scrap the old ideas and go in this direction. I would like them to really experiment and have weird sound and vocal effects, etc

Mendez's performance on here is at times different to anything he's done before, that suggests to me that his playing is to some extent out of his comfort zone. Either way he really pushed himself on here to give one of his best ever performances.

I really enjoyed Mendez' performance, the rhythm section is brilliant, but I guess I wasn't surprised because I knew Mendez had this in him. I've always thought of him as a more jazz/groove oriented bassist in a metal band. Anyway I'm looking forward to the next album.

The Devil's Orchard is fantastic.
I have grown to really dislike Akerfeldt's clean vocals though.

He certainly doesn't have the range of Vinny Cavanagh for instance, but I like the timbre of his vocals
