There isn't a single dull moment on this album for me. The transition from Bistro to Raid gets me out of my chair every time.

Shh, he about to start the speech, c'mon, silence"

"this album is amazing but it just feels like rhyming for the sake of rhyming, the songs with actual topics are perfect though, like Operation Lifesaver and Fancy Clown"

"rhyme for its own sake" etc. is an interesting concept for DOOM and this album in particular. that's essentially the end of my thought. robert christgau comments both on the lack of "noticeable structure" even upon multiple plays ("just a glorious phantasmagoria of flow"). sort of seems to imply that DOOM's universe of imagery is more hemmed in by the dictates of rhyme than normal: "He loves rhyme so much that the only universe that suits him is one where a gutter ball leads straight to a butterball". The "gutter ball"/"butterball" example is probably germane to Xgau because "butterball" is not really a thing a person says usually

I mean who cares what the old man thinks but I feel like once upon a time I thought about these things too

album is amazing, one of my all-time favorites, but can falter a bit when DOOM steps aside (although I LOVE "eye"/"supervillain theme")--even though I actually agree that there's not really anything boring ever. not particularly into "hardcore hustle" or "shadows of tomorrow"

yeah maybe not hemmed in so much as like. hmm. idk but he definitely loves a word sounding like another word and the weird recall and predict patterns that can invoke
