Deafheaven is more like black metal influenced screamo. The vocalist is definitely not black metal at all, pure screamo style vocals. The music is like a mix of Explosions in the Sky, My Bloody Valentine, and Weakling. There's a black metal influence in the sound for sure, but they aren't black metal.
I'm convinced that DarkNoctus would call the song Lomo from Klimt 1918 black metal because it has tremolo picked guitars and fast percussion.
