I finally had the time (and courage) to listen to their latest album, it's not the typical Zzzz death doom, the band actually builds good atmospheres

Heard this today, it has aged so well, but now I wish it had the sound work of its successor.

Bit of a doom pleb but I really like Esoteric's use of melodic almost psychedelic clean leads over the doom riffs. Anybody have a similar style doom band they can rec?

Depends on which of those bits you have a preference for?

Doom riffs are powerful but not always the most compelling over a whole album listen for me so the dynamism of the melodic leads gives me a sort of anchor. That's why I usually settle for something in the middle like Boris or Earth but I'm curious to hear more in the traditional doom style like Esoteric. I quite like Mournful Congregation as well.

In that case you might want to check out the now defunct Eye Of Solitude (particularly Canto III) and some earlier Monolithe if you can stomach single tracked 50plus minute escapades into sweeping funeral doom. Clouds may be a bit too on the nose for your tastes, but it's the doom supergroup to end all supergroups.

Just saw this has a 2021 remaster…
If it’s anywhere near Pyrrhic Existence sound-wise, it’d be awesome.
