A ton of great tracks on this album

Bumping this to a 4 because I've returned to it literally every Fall since 2011. I think I might need to listen to some other Needtobreathe albums. Anyone have a rec for where to go from here? If it helps, I love the heavier rock vibes of this record's opening track.

I am a sucker for Needtobreathe and this one has pretty much everything. I end up coming back to this one more than any off the others, though I think the stretch of The Heat, The Outsiders, and this one, are for sure their best collectively. I have liked everything since, but there always seem to be one or two songs now that are just filler. No bad albums in my opinion though

Ever since I started really getting into country, these guys have sounded better and better. I realize they're very much a rock band too (with country influence), but they might be in my top 5 country-ish bands at the moment. This album in particular is superb.

Their new album is being underrated to an almost unfathomable extent. Might be their best record and people here are straight up treating it like it's average.

I'll have to give it a listen. Outsiders is probably my favorite, but haven't really listened to a full album since Rivers.

Since you said you're getting into country-ish stuff, have you ever listened to Marcus King?

Apparently you'll either hate it or think it's average
Outside of jesusfreakshideout or whatever that worship review site is, I'm like the only one who thinks it's one of their best
This and Outsiders were always my top 2, but now the new one is right up there
I should warn that it's pretty standard radio rock/CCM, the lyrics and songwriting are just really good IMO

And no, never heard of Marcus King. Is it rockier like this or more traditionally country?

I'll have to give it a listen tonight. I've always had a soft spot for these guys so I'm sure I won't hate it.
And Marcus King (technically The Marcus King Band) walks the line between bluesy rock and country similarly to these guys but a little more blues influence.

One of their bigger songs. Vocals are pretty reminiscent of Chris Stapleton imo.

I like Stapleton too, so added bonus there.

For sure, hope you dig them. They are also pretty unappreciated on sput.

Love that song. Digging the new one quite a bit too.

finally got around to checking the new one and I don't quite understand the ratings for it yet. Even my close friend who loves them said the new one is "meh" and idk about that

I have a review for it half finished that's basically me saying how musically average it is but how it makes me feel things and then I start talking about vulnerability and the power of community and I dunno if it will ever get published haha.

like you said, definitely sounds very CCM/rock stuff, but man do they do it well

Going through the discography of this painfully vanilla radio-folk-pop-rock pastiche band for some godforsaken misguided reason.
I didn't actively hate this record though. They kind of hit the bullseye on the "be alt-rock for the kid but be plain as wallpaper for the Mom" aesthetic about as well as you could possibly hit it here. Still doesn't make it excusable, but there's some artistry in that.
And Washed By The Water is quite a good song. That's all the praise I'm giving. Go listen to Jars of Clay, you nerds.

love some Jars of Clay... and this... then again I grew up listening to CCM so I'm just kinda used to it at this point
