First 4 albums rule but MoP and RtL are in a league of their own

...And Justice For All really isn't bad as far as I remember, it's been a while since I've listened to any sort of Metallica tbh so it's tough for me to compare.

It's not bad, it fact it's pretty great but it's got a bunch of problems.

I think one of those 'bunch of problems' has got to be the bass issue, no?

Not in too long. Having a binge session today, looking forward to that.

That's a minor problem compared to the fact they have an awful habit in that album of milking every riff for what it's worth, many dull moments I don't care for. Half of the album is fucking amazing, half of it is alright/meh.

ajfa is great and all but it kind of lacks the aggression of their first 3 records.

i often wonder what it would've sounded like had cliff still been around to write/record for it

Lacks aggression? Have you heard Blackened or Dyer's Eve?

yeah they slowed it down a bit from their first three but that doesn't detract from it imo, just more progressive influence

They slowed some parts down but not that much, as ford said, just a more progressive influence.

Not that big a fan of AJFA.

First 3 are all that matters.

"i often wonder what it would've sounded like had cliff still been around to write/record for it"

it matters in the sense that it shows how much of a drop a bands music can take when said band loses it's best musician
