I'm appreciating Holy Diver more than I used to, but I think my problem is that it simply didn't age very well. While it was a pioneering album for power metal, I think there's even more cheese on Dio's record than in many future legends of the genre.

ok well I wouldn't call it power metal, or even proto-power metal. It's just pure '80s hard rocking, heavy metal.
and that's also why it's cheesy; it was made in the '80s. don't see how that's a bad thing.

this does not have better production you are flat out wrong on that one
riffs like you could maybe make a case for but nah Holy Diver t/t riff alone destroys anything on here, plus there's Stand Up and Shout which is like, a CLASSIC heavy metal riff that every band rips off, Caught in the Middle is the '80s embodied in a riff, Don't Talk to Strangers ughhhh omg no the riffs are not better on here sorry you are so god damn wrong
