I feel like before Beggars came out they made a big deal about it being a 'deliberately simpler' album and it feels like they just stuck with it.

that, or he generally believes simpler = better, like some musical equivalent of Enlightened Centrism nonsense

The stretch from Identity Crisis to Beggars is the best version of this band and the evolution is incredible. I still think this album is where they dropped off. Never was able to get into it as with their earlier records.

I would recommend Vheissu, which I still hold as their best album. People wax nostalgic about Identity Crisis and The Illusion of Safety, but IC is hilariously juvenile and Illusion has some bangers but nowhere near the maturity of Vheissu
