in this analogy, empathy is being able to relate to the music like you said, so that'd be like futures for me. to invoke feelings that the person can't relate to otherwise is pretty powerful though and it's not often music can do that. i feel it on you won't know and limousine on this

lol when i listen to between the bars (elliott smith) i understand for a split second how soul-crushingly awful alcoholism and isolation is.
i have various issues but genuine depression? ha, not with a loving family and plenty of friends. i haven't hit rock bottom and hopefully never will (knock on wood)

oh no i understand that, i get that depression by definition is illogical. i'm sure i was depressed a month ago for like two days due to the effects of some post-surgery drugs, and it was just awful. but it never felt like rock-bottom the way that between the bars is, but listening to that song gives me just an idea of how awful it is.
