I am still hoping to wake up to find that this album was a pretty bad nightmare but those hopes are beginning to fade fast.

After listening to think that this album was a band that was just trying to get themselves on their feet with Josh after losing John. The next album is going to be really really good I am sure.

I think people overthink this album. It's just RHCP having a lot of energy and fun with Josh now in the band. The music is a bit simpler and mostly upbeat, but simple doesn't always mean bad. (although to be honest, it's not as simple as it seems. There's a good bit of really subtle distortion/texturing stuff Josh does that people don't notice)
I don't think anyone will argue that this is on the level of Californication or BSSM, but it's fun.

It is fun yes but is not the only thing I have come to associate with my favorite band. I expect much much more than just a fun record. There is nothing on this album that makes me get an immense hankering to just reach home and listen to it, while I always get that in their other albums. This is very meh.

My god this! Perhaps People don't understand Josh's style, and i'll admit it's burried in the mix but the man knows what he is doing!

Yah, I mean I don't technically know whether people notice it or not, but I imagine not. I didn't notice it for quite a while.

It's decent music, but the production is absolute garbage. I saw these guys live and the sound smoked everything on the record. I don't get why people are fanatics of the whole 'loudness war' concept. Rick Rubin is so revered as a producer. Yet, this dull, over-compressed sounding record has left me wondering 'Why the hell?'

I have warmed up to this record a lot more lately. Still doesn't come close to their best works though.

This kind of over-compressed nonsense is exactly why the loudness wars started; it's been known for a long time that Rick Rubin is part of the problem regarding upping loudness, despite his other merits as a producer. Compression like this is widley used to make the record sound "hotter" & enable louder volumes.
Look it up in a book (or at least Wikipedia): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war
