This album is definitely among Bowie's worst, along with Tonight and Black Tie White Noise, although I think I actually would rate this one higher than Black Tie White Noise (very faint praise I know, but mainly because I hate all the flaccid club drum loops and shit on that one). That being said, you can at least hear some decent songs in there, but they are so over-produced that they're just drowned out by all the sonic diarrhea stuffed into them. I am looking forward to the re-recording/mixing in the 2018 box set later this year. The re-recorded version of 'Zeroes' that was just put out cleans up the mix incredibly and is actually pretty damn catchy.

This album isn’t amazing but it at least shows off some good songwriting and some of the songs are fun to come back to sometimes. It’s far better than Hours

I don't really know why I went into this expecting the album to grow on me from last time. It's still pretty damn shit

After hearing the album for the first time as the remaster on Loving the Alien, I'm kinda shocked this album is so poorly received. I enjoy more than half this album and can see how it might not reach it's full potential, but it's still quite exceptional for 80's pop music imo. I especially enjoyed the album re-recording/remix that was also included on Loving the Alien.

Well I have Tonight 3'd and while I don't love it, I do think it' at least better than Let's Dance

I'm only up to Glass Spider, but so far nothing as bad a Shake It or Dancing with The Big Boys

Okay upon first listen:

This fucking sucks. Side one almost tricked me into thinking this was cool, especially since Time Will Crawl is legit a good song, but wow, side 2 has like 0 interesting ideas. Even that spoken word part of Glass Spider is bland, it's just less bland than the rest of side 2 :|

And I legit defend Tonight for getting over hated

This and Tonight are his only bad albums tbh.

I have a soft spot for Black Tie, it's kinda underrated.

I don't think a remaster would be enough to make me like this, the lyrics are terrible too, and a lot of the random guitar solos

Time Will Crawl and Shining Star (Makin’ My Love) are actually good though, but in a "still 80s cheese" kind of way

The whole album is pretty listenable, not in a Heroes or Hunky level, but its not awful either.
