Station to Station and Low are head and shoulders above the rest production wise yeah
His aughts material also sounds great imo but thats kinda apples and oranges

2012 40th anniversary remaster sounds amazing

The vocals sound empty? I think 5 Years is one of his most impressive songs vocally

it wouldn't be a good song vocally if the production was shit; i'm saying i think the production suits it perfectly. i could see making a case for the prod not being amazing on space oddity or to some degree hunky dory much more than ziggy.
edit: didn't see ur whole post at first, this phone is dogshit

space oddity above ziggy and hunky dory is interesting

no way lol. i like this album but it's a bit on the lower end, despite having some of his best songs (there's noticeably a lot more filler on this as opposed to say diamond dogs oe hunky dory... and also it's nowhere near his darkest, if that's where the mm comparison comes in).

she do be grinning
think that's defs top, but the runner up podium is crowded. top of my head would go
S: Lady Grining Soul
A: Watch That Man, Cracked Actor, Time(?)
????: t/t
B: Prettiest Star, Let's Spend the Night Together, Drive-in Saturday
C: Panic in Detroit
D: Jean Genie (most overrated Bowie track)
|
| |
Jean Genie is definitely the worst you got that right

But like, 8 of 10 solid tracks in there. This never gelled for me as an album, but I should revisit - calibre is gud

"let's spend the night" and "jean genie" are def my low points
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.7
Let's Spend the Night Together defs has a throwaway feel to it, but I like it as a moment of levity on this tracklist and it hardly overstays its welcome
It is time for Diamond Dogs I think?

oh damn you aint heard diamond dogs?
scalding hot take here but thats probably where he really hit his stride, my fave bowie up til that point. the A-side is really excellent in particular

that was the first Earl Slick album iirc so maybe that figures? tentatively hyped lfg
ed. i tell a lie - bowie played the leads himself? think Slick joined his band on the tour and stuck around up to Station to Station
